Resources for College Students
The Generation Rx University resources were created by college students, for college students, to help prevent prescription drug misuse on college campuses. These materials are designed for use in courses, student orientation, residence halls, Greek life, recreational sports, student organizations, or any other venue where college students live and learn.

In-person Programming
These activities are designed for use in courses, student orientation, residence halls, recreational sports, student organizations, or any other venue where college students live and learn. Each activity listed is designed to serve as a stand-alone resource. Along with each activity, we’ve included specific talking points for facilitators. Before implementing any activity, we encourage you to review the “Getting Started” resources listed in Section 1.
Trivia Game
A competitive game that educates young adults on how to safely use medications, with an emphasis on why incorporating these practices in their everyday lives is important.
Rising Above the Opioid Epidemic
A discussion-based activity that explores specific issues related to prescription opioids, including discussion of potential risks, guidance on safe use if prescribed by a healthcare provider, and action steps to take in a drug overdose situation.
The Reality of Misusing Prescription Stimulants Activity
A skit-based activity designed to equip college students with the skills to turn down invitations to misuse prescription stimulants and identify safe, sustainable approaches for achieving academic success.
Safe Medication Practices for Life - An Orientation
A discussion-based activity that utilizes the videos listed in the section below to provide an overview of Generation Rx University messages designed to educate college students toward “safe medication practices for life.” As the program relies on messages emphasized in the videos, discussions will focus on specific issues relating to opioid and stimulant medications, as well as some key general guidelines for safe medication-taking practices. We’ve also provided a flyer presenting organizations can utilize to advertise the program.

Virtual Programming
Out of the four activities available for live programming, we’ve adapted all four activities for virtual use – the online adaptations are embedded within both the activity and facilitator talking points. All adaptations reflect delivery of a synchronous session using a videoconferencing platform for small group sizes (under 30 participants) – if small groups and/or a videoconferencing platform is not an option, email info@generationrx.org and we would be happy to discuss adaptations that best fit your needs.

Activities for Fraternity & Sorority Life
This presentation is a discussion-based activity specifically designed for engaging students in fraternity and sorority life. It utilizes the videos listed below to provide an overview of Generation Rx University messages. As such, discussions will focus on specific issues relating to opioid, sedative, and stimulant medications, as well as some key general guidelines for safe medication-taking practices. Facilitators can deliver this presentation through either an in-person or virtual program – the accompanying facilitator guides make recommendations for both delivery modalities. Please select the delivery modality that best fits your needs and follow the suggestions for maximizing participant engagement.

These videos are for use with the activities listed in the sections above, or for use as a stand-alone resource – consider sharing them with college students through digital platforms, like email or social media.

Visual Aids
We encourage you to print these resources and post them in high-traffic areas on campus. In total, there are eight visual aid posters. Please feel free to mix and match posters that support your desired message. We’ve included additional suggestions below for maximizing their use.
Collection 1: Safe Medication Practices Visual Aids
These four posters feature safe medication practices. As such, we encourage facilitators to hang these four posters together as a single collection. Consider adding the personalized visual aid, or complementing them with a poster from Collection 2.
Collection 2: Stand-alone Visual Aids
These three posters overview medication misuse, the misuse of prescription stimulants, and the misuse of prescription opioids, respectively. As such, these posters can be hung as stand-alone resources, or combined with any visual aid from the other collections.
Collection 3: Personalized Visual Aid for Getting Help
This is an editable poster that identifies resources for getting help. We encourage you to personalize this poster with campus-specific resources for students to find help (e.g., campus wellness centers, academic advisors, etc.), and utilize it as needed.

“The Party” InterACT Video
Ohio State’s INTERACT drama troupe invites high school students to direct actors who portray college kids contemplating the use of prescription drugs at a party. This innovative project was organized by The Ohio State University College of Pharmacy’s Generation Rx. Participants: Interact’s Robin Post and Nicole Kwiek, PhD, The Ohio State University College of Pharmacy.
The Higher Education Center for Alcohol and Drug Misuse Prevention and Recovery
The Higher Education Center provides resources, training, and technical assistance for colleges and universities wishing to enhance their alcohol and other drug misuse prevention efforts or collegiate recovery communities.
Taking Action to Prevent & Address Prescription Drug Abuse: A Resource Kit for America’s College Campuses
The downloadable handouts in this resource kit are provided by the National Council on Patient Information and Education and designed to equip peer educators and campus leaders (residence assistants, peer health educators,campus leaders in student government, Greek life or campus clubs, and captains of athletic teams among others) with timely and practical informational resources and programming ideas to educate college students about prescription drug misuse prevention and treatment, and also to help build skills so that students can take action against it.
